Campus Crime Report

The following is a partial report of campus crime between Thursday and Sunday. All information is selected from the files of the UH Police Department. The information in italics indicates when the event was reported to UHPD and the event' s location. Information or questions regarding the cases below should be directed to UHPD at (713) 743-0600. 

Theft: 8:57 a.m. Thursday, M.D. Anderson Library -- A visitor tried to take a book out of the library, setting off the alarms. The visitor was detained and issued a Harris County citation for criminal trespass. Occurred between 10 and 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Theft: 3:45 p.m. Thursday, University Center -- A UH staff member reported someone stole a UH-owned laptop from an unattended and secured area. There are no witnesses or suspects. Occurred between 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 a.m. Thursday. 

Criminal mischief: 3:51 p.m. Thursday, Lot 1C -- A UH staff member reported someone damaged (keyed) her unattended and secured vehicle while it was parked in Lot 1C. There are no suspects or witnesses. Occurred between 8 a.m. and 5:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Credit/debit card abuse: 4:39 p.m. Thursday, Quadrangle -- A UH student reported she had an unauthorized transaction pending on her Cougar 1Card that was made off campus by unknown persons. There are no suspects. Occurred between 1 p.m. March 17 and 5:50 p.m. March 18. 

Traffic offense: 7:41 p.m. Thursday, parking garage -- A UH student reported someone struck his unattended and secured vehicle and left the scene without leaving the required information. There are no suspects. Occurred between 8:28 and 8:31 p.m. March 8.

Public intoxication: 1:13 a.m. Friday, Bayou Oaks Apartments -- A UH student was found intoxicated at the Bayou Oaks residential parking area and transported and released to Harris County jail. The student was issued a Student Life Referral. Houston Fire Department examined the student prior to arrest. The student had no parent in the immediate area to be released to. Occurred at 1:13 a.m. Thursday.

Traffic offense: 8:22 a.m. Friday, Lot 1A -- A UH faculty member reported someone struck her unattended and secured vehicle while it was parked in Lot 1A. The driver of the striking vehicle failed to leave the proper information required by law. There are no suspects or witnesses. Occurred between 1:20 and 8 p.m. Friday.

Traffic offense: 1:09 a.m. Saturday, Cullen Oaks Apartments -- A UH student was stopped for a traffic violation and arrested for fictitious or altered registration sticker. The student was transported and released to Harris County jail. The student was issued a Student Life Referral for the incident. Occurred at 1:09 a.m. Saturday.

Criminal mischief: 2:23 p.m. Saturday, 4000 Holman St. -- A UH student reported someone broke out her passenger window on her secured and unattended parked vehicle. There are no suspects. Occurred between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday. 

Reckless damage: 12:16 a.m. Sunday, Law Hall -- A visitor recklessly caused extensive damage to the grass area located in front of Law Hall when his full-size van got stuck in the grass while attempting to exit the Quadrangle area. No charges were filed. Occurred at 12:16 a.m. Sunday.

Unlawful carrying a weapon/possession of marijuana: 1:03 a.m. Sunday, Lot 1A -- A UH student was stopped after he was observed by closed circuit camera acting suspiciously in Lot 1A. The student and a visitor were arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon. Another student, a passenger in the vehicle, was also arrested for possession of marijuana. Both students were issued Student Life and Residential Life Referrals. Occurred at 1:03 a.m. Sunday.
