Life & Arts Houston is the next stop on the yellow brick road ‘Wicked' tells the story of what
happened
COUGAR LIFE & ARTS SERVICES The Tony Award-winning musical Wicked returns to Houston for a second run. Based on the best-selling book, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, the musical tells the untold story of the witches of the Land of Oz. Written as a prequel to Frank L. Baum's classic, the musical is more influenced by his book than the movie, The Wizard of Oz. Wicked explores the idea that the infamous antagonist, the Wicked Witch of the West, was not born evil but was a victimized individual and became wicked. Set at the illustrious Shiz University, the clever, green-skinned Elphaba meets Galinda Upland as they are set up to be roommates. They become involved in each other's lives, and through the course of the story their blossoming friendship struggles as polar views and a rivalry over a same love interest strain their friendship. Eventually, the audience witnesses Elphaba's fall into her wicked state. Since it's premiere, Wicked has won 15 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards. The musical opened Wednesday and will continue running until April 15 at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. For ticket prices and more information, visit www.broadwayacrossamerica.com.
