Sports Houston take three wins at classic COUGAR SPORTS SERVICES The UH track and field team racked up three wins, including five NCAA Regional marks, Saturday afternoon at the LSU Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La. Junior James Lee won the men's discus competition with a throw of 54.80m/179-09 and freshman Ashley Bryant won the event for the women with a throw of 49.54m/162-06. Bryant and Lee set NCAA Regional qualifying marks with their first-place throws. Junior Amanda Villanueva finished directly behind Bryant with a runner-up toss of 44.15m/144-10. Bryant also competed in the hammer throw and added a fifth place finish with a throw of 42.34m/138-11. Senior standout Ebonie Floyd qualified for the Regional competition in two events Saturday. She finished fourth in the 200 meters with a sprint of 23.16 seconds, a performance that assured her that she would be making the trip to Des Moines, Iowa for the Regional meet. Floyd also ran on the Cougars' 4x400 meter relay that came in second place. She was joined by senior Octavia Garrett, freshman Quin'shundolyn McPherson and sophomore LaNeeka Allen. The men's 4x400 relay team finished third place with a time of 3 minutes, 11.96 seconds. The women's 4x100 relay team finished sixth. In the men's high jump, where junior Ivan Diggs cleared 2.10m/6-10.75 for a second place finish that granted him a trip to the Regional. Senior Tristian Whitley finished in fifth place. Junior Steve Magness was victorious in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14 minutes, 21.49 seconds and freshman Ahmed Harb placed fourth. In the women's 5,000 meters, freshman Jessica Cook earned a third-place finish with a time of 18 minutes, 33.34 minutes. In other distance events, freshman Daniel Martinez took third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4 minutes, 1.19 seconds. The women's group placed three in the top five of the 1,500 meters. Sophomore Jennifer Harper came in second place, junior Oumama Hallal took third and junior Adrianne Guinn finished fourth. Guinn also placed third in the 800 meters with Hallal coming in sixth. In the women's 100 meter hurdles, sophomore Seun Adigun ended up in sixth place and sophomore LeeA'ndrea Robinson was a step behind in seventh. Freshman Alex Bentley took second place in the pole vault after clearing 4.95m/16-02.75. Senior Nick Garza finished sixth. The Cougars were led in the hammer throw by senior
Lucas Mireles, who earned seventh place with a throw of 39.50m/129-07,
and sophomore Andy Tackett finished ninth. Mireles also finished fourth
in the shot put with a throw of 15.77m/51-09.00.
