News Students to get a taste of trading by DANTE EGLIN
The high-intensity world of energy trading and commodity futures exchange in New York City will be replicated during the sixth annual Open Outcry Competition on Saturday in the Bauer College of Business' AIM Center. Students from nine universities will assume the roles of energy traders and risk managers as they simulate the commodity transactions that take place daily on the floor of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The winner will receive a paid six-week internship with Nymex that includes a stipend as well as a minimum $1,000 scholarship. Linda Rapacki, an external affairs project manager at Nymex, said the experience is invaluable for students aiming to earn a position with a brokerage firm. "The students get to see what it's truly like to be an open outcry trader because there's no college to get such experience," Rapacki said. "They get to see what it's like to be standing out there on the trading floor and take in the whole experience." Send comments to dcnews@mail.uh.edu |
