News Hobby Center to host Kofi Annan COUGAR NEWS SERVICES Nobel Peace Prize winner and former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan will make his first public appearance since retiring from the post in January at 7 p.m. today in the Hobby Center as part of the Brilliant Lectures Series. "This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Texas — a conversation not to be missed by anyone who cares about or seeks to understand the issues that connect -- and tear apart -- our world." Scott Brogan, founding director of Brilliant Lectures, said in a release. Tickets range from $15 to $150 and can be purchased at the door, by calling (713) 315-2525 or visiting www.thehobbycenter.org. UH students, faculty and staff purchasing tickets online may enter the code "UHC" for a 15 percent discount. Annan, a native of Ghana, was the first black African
secretary-general for the United Nations, and is known for championing
causes against HIV/AIDS and global terrorism as well as his Millennium
Development Goals humanitarian project.
