Sports UH student-athletes earn academic awards Sixteen players honored for prowess in classroom COUGAR SPORTS SERVICES UH had a total of 16 student-athletes on the list when Conference USA announced its Academic Medal winners Wednesday. The Cougars join a group of 321 student-athlete recipients from the conference. The award honors athletes who excel in the classroom as well as on the field or court. C-USA's features 12 member schools -- East Carolina, Houston, Marshall, Memphis, Rice, Southern Methodist, Southern Miss, Tulane, Tulsa, Alabama-Birmingham, Central Florida and Texas-El Paso. The Academic Medal is given to those student-athletes that have maintained a minimum grade-point average of 3.75 or better. This year, the number of student-athletes who received the medal increased by more than 30 percent, according to the conference office. Tulane led the pack with 47 student-athletes receiving the honor, followed by Memphis (36) and ECU (34). Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
