Life & Arts TUTS honors director's efforts School of Theatre and Dance director
LIFE & ARTS SERVICES Houston's Theatre Under the Stars honored School of Theatre and Dance Director Sidney Berger with the Ruth Denney Award on Tuesday for his work in shaping the lives of young artists. "To be honored for doing something I love makes me more grateful than I can articulate," Berger said in a release. "It also is very rewarding to receive this award from TUTS, which has done everything to help theater in this city. I am very happy that they have chosen to honor me." Berger has been at the helm for the School of Theatre and Dance since 1968. In that time, he instructed countless rising actors, including Hollywood stars Dennis and Randy Quaid. Berger was also one of the co-founders of the Houston
Shakespeare Festival, which still offers free performances of Shakespeare's
plays at the Miller Outdoor Theatre. In 1978, Berger also helped in starting
up the Children's Theatre Festival, which brings classic children tales
to the stage.
