CAPS should improve its procedures after shootings at Virginia Tech

To the editor:

The incident at Virginia Tech has made me feel the need to speak up. Last year, I was receiving individual counseling at UH Counseling and Psychological Services. One afternoon, as I waited to be called in, an individual who appeared physically and mentally disturbed came into the waiting area. He was apparently sent to the director of the program, who then sent him out because the individual was not a UH student.

After learning about the individual who committed the horrible crime at Virginia Tech, I hope the CAPS director and staff rethink their ethics and procedures. They sent out a person who could have potentially committed a similar crime.

UH students and organizations bring about important changes

To the editor:

Josh Delano incorrectly attributed the event Literacy Week to a fraternity in his guest commentary, "Change begins with our generation" (April 10, Opinion).

The event was actually hosted by the sorority Delta Phi Omega. The sorority has been doing Literacy Week for years to support children's education and literacy.

The event was a success, and brought out a good number of people.

As for his statement "it seems like our generation is so lazy that we don't think," I am a bit baffled by why he feels that way. If one actually looks at our campus, there are several student organizations doing things to better their community, such as Amnesty International UH and Unique UH.
