News Name of dead student released Lee, who was found Tuesday in Cullen Oaks, was a 26 year old health and human performance senior by KELSIE HAHN
UH officials publicly identitfied today the student found dead Tuesday in his Cullen Oaks apartment as Seungjune Lee, a 26-year-old health and human performance senior. Lee, who went by the name Andrew, was found by maintenance personnel investigating reports of a strong smell, UH Police Department Capt. Brad Wigtil said. "There was a complaint of an odor, and they were trying to detect where it was emanating from," he said. Lee is believed to have died several days before his body was discovered, a University release said Tuesday. Wigtil recommended students affected by the death contact Counseling and Psychological Services. "Events of this nature are very traumatic for those who may have known the student or those who may have lived close to the student," he said. Clinical Director of Counseling and Psychological Services Norma Ngo said students may be more affected by the death in light of last week's shooting at Virginia Tech. "It seems that students in general are on edge right now because of what happened last week," she said. "Local tragedies may have a more immediatae and intense impact. When things happen further away, one can feel more removed from the events. It is harder to deny the reality when the tragedy occurred in your own neighborhood or living space." Ngo said CAPS personnel are available to talk with distraught students. "During times of community crisis, CAPS clinicians are available to go to the students and provide crisis debriefing," she said. "We have CAPS clinicians who serve as liaisons to Cullen Oaks who are available to assist." If needed, CAPS may also facilitate group discussions, Ngo said. UHPD is working with the Harris County medical examiner's office in the investigation into the student's death, though no sign of trauma or foul play was found at the scene, Wigtil said. "Based on everything at the scene that was found by our detective and the ME investigator, it appeared to be death by natural causes," he said. Send comments to dcnews@mail.uh.edu |
