News SGA resolution calls on profs to meet deadline by Cynthia Brum
The Student Government Association Senate passed a resolution Wednesday that "formally encourages" professors and departments to submit book orders to the UH bookstore in a timely manner. Vice President David Rosen acknowledged Faculty Senate President Steven Craig's work on passing the textbook resolution and thanked the SGA Senate for its hard work. "We are going to then turn our focus toward the bookstore and profiteering of professors, and if we have our way, professor Craig will not be the last professor to talk in front of this administration," Rosen said. In an effort to continue talks on better textbook prices for colleges around the state, Ashley Glaw, central campus liaison to the UH System Board of Regents, reported to the Senate she is working on networking with other universities as well as political figures and hopes to bring the affordable book message to Austin. In other business, the SGA approved President Francisco Zelaya's nomination of Gus Forward for College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Seat 4. Forward, a public relations and advertising junior, encouraged the SGA to get more alumni involved in student affairs and encouraged the SGA Senate to push for the University to bring back the student-run radio station. "There's so many things, so many opportunities for students that they don't know about and a good way to (inform) is to bring back the radio station," Forward said. He serves as chairman, public relations director and host for Channel 6, the UH student-run television network. Director of Finance Emmanuel Ojobaro informed the Senate that he will no longer be able to continue in his position because of an internship opportunity. "I think so far, our administration has done a really good job, and I've had a blast working with all of you," Ojobaro said. In a closing address, CLASS Sen. Brandon Brewton
said he and fellow CLASS Sen. Samuel Dike will look into getting the University
to allow a fall break after midterms.
