News AREA ELECTION RESULTS Tuesday evening, four seats in the State House of Representatives were ceded to Democratic challengers by Republican incumbents. In District 134, Democratic challenger Ellen Cohen won against incumbent Martha Wong with 54 percent of the vote. In District 137, Democratic challenger Scott Hochberg won against Sylvia Spivey with 53.83 percent of the vote with 59 percent of precincts counted. In District 143, Democratic challenger Ana E. Martinez beat Republican incumbent Dorothy Olmos, 70 percent to 26 percent. In District 149, Democratic incumbent Hubert Vo beat Republican Talmadge Heflin, 52 percent to 48 percent. While running very close races in many districts, Republicans retained all judicial seats. Most notably Democrat John Sharp lost to Elsa Alcala for the First Court of Appeals District after having a lead early in the evening. Republican incumbent Annette Galik maintains her seat in the 245th District Court of Appeals with narrow lead over Democratic challenger Mary Kay Green 50.28 percent to 49.72 percent. At one point in the evening the difference was less than 1,800 votes. Republican incumbent Richard Edelman won narrowly over Democratic challenger Leora Kahn 52 to 49 percent in the 14th District Court of Appeals. Republican incumbent Lynn Bradshaw-Hull won narrowly over Democratic challenger Larry Weiman 52 to 49 percent in the 80th District Court of Appeals in an unexpired term Republican incumbent Vanessa Velasquez won narrowly over Democratic challenger Robert Voight 52 percent to 49 percent in the 183rd District Court of Appeals. Republican incumbent Bill Burke maintains won narrowly over Democratic challenger Charles (Chuck) Silverman, 52 to 49 percent in the 189th District Court of Appeals. Republican incumbent Mary Lou Keel won narrowly over Democratic challenger Herb Ritchie 52 to 48 percent in the 232nd District Court of Appeals.
