News Comm school changes mulled by CHI CHI NWAORIE
Even with the absence of President Francisco Zeyala, the Student Government Association Senate was all but business as it looked to make changes to the School of Communication. College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Sen. Gus Forward began preliminary discussions with the dean of communication, alumni organizations and faculty to increase involvement necessary to begin such programs. "We're trying to upgrade the image of the school as well to bring in a better structure," Forward said. Possible changes include the creation of a student-run radio station, modification of the communication college to professional status, an increase in weekend courses and addition of hybrid and mini-semester courses to the curriculum. Forward hopes shorter semesters will create more options for students and prevent those who drop courses during the regular semester from falling behind. Because many of the programs rely on the untapped resources already available, communication students are looking at minimal initial financial responsibility. Forward also said a flat-rate tuition for students could be on the horizon. "There is a lot of things we are working on, and it's going well," he said. In other business, Emmanuel Obajaro, director of Finance, will resign effective in December. Obajaro has accepted an accounting internship and will be replaced by Kelli Harper. Harper, who currently holds the senator-at-large
position, was voted in early by the Senate "to ensure a seamless transition"
and will fill the position for the remainder of the term.
