Sports UH gets one more preseason warm-up by ARIE GRAHAM
The UH women's basketball team is set to play its second exhibition game, this time against the Houston Jaguars, a women's travel team that helps develop post-collegiate players, at 7 p.m. tonight at Hofheinz Pavilion. The Jaguars have gone 0-11 during their 2006 college tour, including losses against two other Conference USA teams, SMU (84-59) and Tulane (80-74). The Cougars lost their Oct. 29 exhibition opener against Lake Truck 78-66. Senior guard Becky Gibson said in order for them to be more effective offensively, they cannot become a team that relies on jump shots. "With our speed and quickness we should be able to attack any team," Gibson said. Head coach Joe Curl said the emphasis in practice has always been on defense and being a stronger rebounding team, as the Cougars run an undersized rotation. "We have to be a great rebounding team, although I think our ability to push the ball and score will be an asset," Curl said. This is the Cougars' final exhibition game before
they open the regular season against Texas Tech at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Hofheinz
Pavilion.
