The African-American Honors Student Association is hosting a speech by a senior partner of an international law firm 4 p.m. today on the second floor of the Honors College in the M.D. Anderson Library.

Rufus Cormier, an attorney with Baker Botts, LLP, will share insight into the changes in corporate America, strategies for success and the joys of philanthropic work.

Cormier is also well known for his openhanded support of civic and humanitarian causes.

He has received awards from various private and non-profit organizations, including the National Conference for Community and Justice’s Humanitarian Award and the Anti-Defamation League’s Karen H. Susman Jurisprudence Award for his commitment to equality, fairness and justice.

Cormier stuied law at Yale University and served as a special assistant to counsel for the House Judiciary Committee during President Nixon’s impeachment inquiry.

He was recognized by Texas Monthly and Law & Politics as a "Texas Super Lawyer" since 2003.

The speech is open to all students, but those considering law school are encouraged.

A reception with refreshments and classical music begins at 3:30 p.m.
