Report card is thankful for ... It may not be Friday, but it's the end of the work week, and that warrants a report card. In honor of the coming holiday, The Daily Cougar reflects on a semester full of things to be thankful for. UH football's winning season: A It's been 16 years since the last time the Cougars won nine games during a regular season, and attendance is up from last year. But the players and coaches weren't the only ones working hard. The University promoted attendance at games like never before. Now the team heads into the Conference USA championship with home-field advantage, and for that we're especially thankful. So pony up the $10 for a student ticket and get in there at 7 p.m. Dec. 1. It'll be worth it. Not-so-rockin' hurricane season: A After the destructive hurricane season of 2005, experts predicted a busy 2006 season. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted there would be at least 13 tropical storms, eight of which would become hurricanes. But the 2006 hurricane season, which ended Nov. 30, was pretty tame. Only five hurricanes formed this year, none of which made landfall in the U.S. While Houstonians did their part after Hurricane Katrina to make life easier for evacuees, we're thankful we didn't have that opportunity again. We're also thankful Houston residents didn't have to put the city's new evacuation plans to the test. Thanksgiving break: A+ We have a chance to get caught up on schoolwork ? but we'll probably just catch up on sleep. Take time this week to think about the people you're thankful for. Fill your belly with lots of turkey and dream sweet dreams of C-USA victory. Finally, The Daily Cougar is thankful for the talented students who devote so much of their time to this publication. Each day an eclectic group works together to put out a product for fellow students. Most of all, we're thankful for our readers.
