Local acts combine tunes at fun land

by RUTHIE RODRIGUEZ

For those of you who have the pleasure of free time before finals week check out the diverse line-up of local Texas acts during their after the holiday comeback performances.

The Authentic Keys, G. Styles and Darwin's Finches will provide the opening acts for Trip Adams, an up-and-coming pop punk grunge rock trio, tonight at 8 p.m. at Super Happy Fun Land, 2610 Ashland Street.

With the group's energetic blend of alternative, grunge and pop rock the headlining act, Trip Adams, will surely have a slightly diverse group of concertgoers flocking to the scene.

For most of Trip Adams' pieces guitarist Chris Hathcock, and bass guitarist, Jeremiah Current offer edgy guitar riffs while Clay Wise provides an intense layer of steady drumming from which the band's energy thrives off of.

The Authentic Keys use an assortment of vintage and modern synthesizers to create a more subtle and interesting sound that's mainly vocal and synth-key driven.

"Avid Adventurer" is one of the band's more upbeat songs that will surely leave fans of Nintendo pop with nothing to be desired.

On the other hand, songs like "Universal Divergence" highlight the softer sounds of the band, as the piece is drenched in light upright piano melodies and subtle percussion while the group maintains awareness for the presence of silence.

But, before spending your hard earned money take a listen for yourself at the band's website, www.myspace.com/bitbybat.

Concertgoers searching for a more laid-back sound witness Darwin's Finches as they provide the first opening act of the night. The Galveston-based trio attempts to mix elements of garage rock and folk with guitar and bass drum driven music.

On their latest album, Monkeys with Glocks, the group does so effectively while delivering this atypical combination.

In "Shoefly Pie", Justino Salidino, offers a bizarre croon that makes the song a little strange, to say the least.

The cover is $7 at the door. For more information, call (713) 880-2100 or go to www.superhappyfunland.com.
