Sports Cougars sweep competition by JONG LEE >The Daily Cougar The swimming and diving (15-3) team swept a home dual meet competition for the first time since early November. Houston picked up its 15th win of the season this weekend after capturing five swim events and two relay races. The Cougars also took the top two spots in the 1-meter spring board, sweeping the quad meet Saturday. The Cougars cruised through the second day of competition, beating Florida International, New Mexico State and North Texas by more than 100 points each. Senior Szintia Szanto finished with a time of 2:05.33 to take the 200-yard butterfly. Szanto also finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.27. Sophomore diver Anastasia Pozdniakova totaled 325.15 points to take home the 1-meter springboard while junior Ginni van Katwijk came in second. Pozdniakova finished first in the diving event with a score of 382.00 on the first day of competition, setting a Houston record in the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium. The Cougars will conclude their regular season home schedule when when they take on Texas A&M at 4 p.m. Friday and Miami at 11 a.m. Saturday. Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
