Life & Arts 'Art Now' provides fresh perspective COUGAR LIFE & ARTS STAFF The Blaffer Gallery will kick off the new year Saturday with the unveiling of its new exhibit, One Way or Another: Asian American Art Now. Presenters of the exhibit hope to present a fresh viewpoint of contemporary Asian-Americans. The artists focused their attention on their homes in America and demonstrated what it is to be a contemporary Asian-American. Unlike the previous Asian-American art exhibition at the Blaffer, Asia/America: Identities in Contemporary Asian American Art, the new exhibit focuses on American roots rather than an immigrant's perspective. Some of the artists included in this exhibit are Michael Arcega, Patty Chang, Binh Danh and Mari Eastman. Arcega, who was born in the Philippines, interprets environmental catastrophes and political turmoil with dark humor and puns. Chang delves into the comedic and disturbing in her body-based video work. The Blaffer Gallery will host two events for the public: an opening reception and a roundtable discussion with five of the artists. The opening reception will be from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight
in the Blaffer Galley, Room 120, Fine Arts Building. The Artists Close
Up discussion will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Blaffer Gallery. The
exhibit will run through March 31.
