News Meeting kicks off spring semester by JENNIFER EARLY
The Student Government Association Senate will hold its first meeting of the semester Wednesday to introduce new senators and discuss nominations. The meeting, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the University Center's Mediterranean Room, will allow the Senate to ensure that all the colleges of the University are fully represented. There are open Senate seats in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, UH Law Center, the College of Pharmacy, the College of Optometry and the Graduate College of Social Work. Sam Dike, CLASS senator and speaker pro tem, said he hopes to introduce a bill that will redefine the role of the SGA. "(The bill will) meet (the SGA's) goals of communicating and outreaching with other student governments across the state as well as advocating directly to the governing bodies that effect higher education," Dike said. Vice President David Rosen said the first meeting will also serve as a starting point for getting to work on the SGA's plans for the semester. "I love campaigning season. It's very tense and difficult, but simultaneously we learn more about ourselves from January through April," Rosen said. CLASS Sen. Gus Forward said he hopes to discuss ways involve alumni by using a variety of communication methods. "Many of the alumni don't know of all the different
resources available to them, such as the (Channel 6) television station
on campus. I would like to open the lines of communication," Forward said.
