Life & Arts Parody, love, violence mark weekend by ROBYN MORROW
Werewolves and orphans and pirates, oh my. This weekend's new releases bring something to the table for all moviegoers. Satisfy that quench for horror with Blood and Chocolate, and try to contain your laughter after watching Epic Movie, a jaw-dropping parody of recent blockbusters. From the director of 2004's Iron Jawed Angels comes Blood and Chocolate. Agnes Bruckner plays Vivian, a beautiful woman harboring a dark secret: she's a shape shifter. After turning herself into a wolf to escape the men who murdered her family, Vivian finds safety in Bucharest working at a chocolate shop. Enter Aiden Galvin (Hugh Dancy), an artist researching ancient art for his novel on shape shifters. After meeting Vivian in an abandoned church, he can't seem to get her out of his head. Although Vivian returns Galvin's feelings, Gabriel (Olivier Martinez), the leader of a powerful group of shape shifters, has other plans for her. No one said love was easy; it must be even harder for shape shifters. For a little less violence and a little more fun,
look to Epic Movie, a parody of the latest blockbuster films to hit the
big screen. The movie features four orphans who visit a chocolate factory
only to be transported to the land of Gnarnia when they decide to investigate
an enchanted wardrobe on the premises. While in Gnarnia, the orphans must
battle pirates, modeled after Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow, among other parodied
villians.
