Sports UH hopes home court will help halt recent skid by JONG LEE
After shooting 30 percent from the floor in a recent loss to Rice, the Cougar women's basketball team (5-11, 2-4 Conference USA) will look to regain its shooting touch in a four-game homestand beginning at 7 p.m. tonight against Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane are coming into Houston as losers of five out of their last eight games, while the Cougars have lost three of their last five games. The Golden Hurricane are the defending conference champs but have only managed two wins in conference this year. "They won the conference championship last year, as well as the conference tournament," Head coach Joe Curl said. "They are very well coached and a classy bunch of young ladies. They've had similar situations like we've had. They haven't played the toughest schedule, but they're 2-4 in conference like we are. "I think it's a great match-up for us, and I think Tulsa and us are capable of beating any team in the conference, as they are capable of beating us. I hope it's a hard-fought game, and I hope they throw one in from three and we win by one — that'll be OK with me, and I think it's going to be that kind of game." The Cougars will take on Southern Methodist (11-7, 3-3 C-USA) at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Mustangs have played well this season, and Curl said SMU is capable of winning C-USA. "We're going to have to be very well prepared," he said. "We're going
to have to get the scouting reports done before the first game because
it's so quick — boom, it's Friday, Saturday and we're playing. There's
not a lot of turnaround time, and we've done the physical part of the scouting
report of watching them and evaluating them."
