Sports Cougars have momentum on side
by JONG LEE
The UH swimming and diving team has had a leg up on the competition all season. The Cougars have posted a 16-4 record in dual meets and are set to embark on their final two competitions of the season with the Conference USA championships looming Feb. 14. Head coach Mark Taylor attributes the team's success to its preseason conditioning. "The girls came back in better shape and it helped everything we tried to do this year," Taylor said. "It has worked better for us this season because the girls have worked so hard to prepare themselves to be at this level," he said. The Cougars will compete in their final dual meet Friday and Saturday in Baton Rouge against LSU, Rice and New Orleans. The Cougars will then travel to New Orleans on Sunday morning for their final regular season meet against New Orleans. "The team looks really good and we're real excited because things are going well, and we're only a few weeks away from the conference championships," Taylor said. Senior Szintia Szanto and sophomore Anastasia Pozdniakova won Conference USA's swimmer and diver of the week awards, respectively, the C-USA office announced Tuesday. "It just shows that our team is peaking at the right
time because we're winning the awards right before the championships,"
Taylor said.
