Life & Arts Meridian jumps on a once-dull night by ELI JABBE
While Sunday nights are often treated as just a boring end to the weekend, two headliners had the crowd at The Meridian leaving the ground Sunday night with a show they won't forget. The highlight of the show came when Detroit natives Love Arcade, one of the two headliners, stepped on stage. Frontman Christian Berishaj, also known as Snowhite; guitarist Thomas Amason; keyboardist Nathaniel Boone; drummer Damon Pantfoeder; and bassist Seth Anderson began their show with an unorthodox but successful cover of Nas' and Puff Daddy's classic "Hate Me Now." Playing the intro and chorus of one of the most energetic songs in recent memory hyped the crowd. The group then performed "Tease Me" from its self-titled album, to be released nationally Tuesday. At various points of the songs, Berishaj told the crowd to jump, and everybody took to the air. Love Arcade's bouncy songs and catchy choruses energized the audience. The night ended with a nice performance from Kill Hannah. The group performed a few songs from their album The Curse of Kill Hannah as well as lesser known songs from its earlier days. Before the show began, fans were treated to a Band Hang, where attendants were able to meet, greet and receive autographs from the bands: The Pink Spiders, Action Reaction, Love Arcade and Kill Hannah. Judging from the demographics of the loyal fans who brought the musicians gifts, it would seem like the crowd would be made up of mostly teenage girls. The audience, however, included everybody from high school kids to college students and adults. Before performing, Berishaj sat down with fans for a few minutes and said, "I always loved music, and have been playing it since I was 12." To kick things off, The Pink Spiders did a few songs, along with Action Reaction. The sound system also played classics like "In Da Club" by 50 Cent and "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins, which kept the crowd lively. Send comments to dcshobiz@mail.uh.edu |
