News Art event takes aim at hunger Cougar News Staff UH artists, get ready to be bowled over. Artists of all skill levels are invited to participate in a Bowl-a-Thon for Empty Bowls Houston from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday in Room 124, Fine Arts Building. At the event, participants will create bowls to be sold at a fundraising event for the Houston Food Bank in March. Bowls made of various materials, such as wood, metal and fabric, will be sold for a minimum of $25, and all proceeds will go to the Food Bank. Last year's drive raised more than $25,000. "The bowl…is supposed to symbolize all the empty bowls in our community and around the world," Empty Bowls committee memper Paula Murphy said. The University donated studio space and clay for the event. Bowls can be sculpted on a wheel or hand-built, and will be glazed and fired in a kiln. More information on the bowl drive is available at
www.emptybowls.net.
