Coach: Team has chance to build some confidence 
at home meet this weekend

The Houston track and field team is back at Yeoman Field House and will host the Houston Invitational at 12:40 p.m. today.

The schedule includes field events for the heptathlon and pentathlon events UH head coach Leroy Burrell said are integral factors to the teams' success in conference.

"Those events are really big for us as far as conference is concerned," Burrell said. "I'd like to see Rachel Ealsey hit her provisional qualifying mark this weekend, (and also) Carey LaCour."

The schools set to compete in the meet include Grambling State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State.

Burrell said the women's and men's teams have progressed nicely, but there is always room for improvement.

"So far things are looking pretty good," Burrell said. "We are rounding into shape now and we've got everyone healthy. I feel really good about where we are. If I have to point to anything with a little disappointment it's that we haven't qualified as many people as I would like to see at this point in the season for NCAA."

Burrell said he is content with the opening part of the season but will like to polish up on a few things to get the teams' morale up.

"We have a little bit more to do; we are off to a pretty good start. I like the way our kids are placed in the conference list, but we have a few more things we need to get done so we'll feel really confident," he said.

The meet will conclude at 5 p.m. in Yeoman Field House Saturday.
