News Election process begins for SGA Students must be in good academic
standing and are encouraged
by JENNIFER EARLY
Candidacy filing for the Student Government Association general election starts today. Applicants will receive a copy of the election calendar and SGA election code upon filing. They are restricted to filing for one position. In order to qualify for the candidacy of any seat, students must be enrolled at UH and be in good academic standing. Head Election Commissioner Patrick Tyczynski said students should read the election code carefully to avoid confusion. "In the election code, it specifically says if you run for that one position you put on the application, you are going to be running for that (position) … even if there are 10 people running for (position number one) and only one person running for (position number two). However, (students) have the ability to look at who is running for what position at the time they file," Tyczynski said. Election commissioners plan to keep students updated by a daily list on the SGA Web site of who is running for each position. Applications may also be voided or amended if students wish to change their filing position before deadline. Applications are available online at www.uh.edu/sga and must be turned in to the SGA office by 5 p.m. on Feb. 19 in Room 57 of the University Center Underground. Students may contact the election commission with questions about the filing process at (713) 743-5320 or by e-mailing sgaelectioncommission@uh.edu. Send comments to dcnews@mail.uh.edu |
