Sports UH sets records at Houston Invitational Cougar Sports Services At the Houston Invitational this past weekend, school records were broken and season highs were set. Junior Amanda Villanueva captured first place in the weight throw of 18.29 meters (60-1/4 feet), topping a previous Houston record of 18.03 meters set in 2004 by Shayla Bowman. In the 60-meter hurdles, junior Seun Adigun finished in second with a season best 8.38 mark. Adigun's time is ranked as the fastest in Conference USA and her time of 8.43 that was set at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Jan. 19 is ranked as the 16th fastest time in the nation. Advancing in the 60-meter finals was senior Carey LaCour, who finished in fifth with 6.78, which is ranked as the fastest time in C-USA. Senior Ebony Floyd took in her third victory in the 60-meter race with a time of 7.31, and senior Octavia Garrett finished in eighth, respectively. Junior Jarrett Flax, after leading in the heptathlon Friday, finished sixth only after competing in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000 meter run. Leading the Cougar pack was senior Nick Garza with 4,935 points to win second place, and also placing was sophomore Morgan Floyd (fifth), freshman Wesley Bray (seventh), and sophomore Neal McCarty (12th). Junior Kolee Latson placed seventh in the 200 meters at 22.18 seconds, a personal best. Freshmen Pearson Crichlow finished (13th) and Justin Davis placed 24th in the event. In the women's 200 meters, freshman Quin'shundolyn McPherson placed 15th as she took the top spot for the Houston. In the 400 meters, freshman Jason Perez finished at 49.64 seconds, which earned fifth place while senior Chris White placed 12th. For the women's Ciara Willis took 10th with a time of 58.40. In the long distance races, sophomore Kelcee Keenan registered a 22nd finish in the mile and freshman Erica Hannemann placing 39th. Freshman Daniel Martinez clocked in at 2:00.30 in the 800 meters, finishing 19th and for the women's race sophomore Jennifer Harper placed 10th at 2:19.76. Senior Calum Neff took the highest place earned by a Cougar, finishing eighth in the 3,000 meters at8:29.01, and freshman Ahmed Harb finished 10th respectively. On the women's side, junior Oumama Hallal placed 16th and freshman Jessica Cook 17th. In the field events, finishing in third and fourth in the high jump were junior Ivan Diggs and senior Tristian Whitley. Diggs cleared 2.12 meters (6-11.5) and Whitley cleared 2.07 (6-09.5). In the long jump, sophomore Grant Hightower placed fourth with a leap of 7.15 meters. Senior shot putter James Lee placed seventh throwing 16.54 meters and senior Lucas Mireles threw 15.70 meters placing 11th. Both men's and women's 4x400 relay team finished in fourth place.
