Sports Cougars will get their final home tune-up of season in weekend meet by Louie Vera
The last home meet of the 2007 indoor season for the UH track and field team will be the UH Runsport All-Comers meet, which begins at 9 a.m. Saturday. This event is non-scoring and will start with the field events followed by the running events. The next time the Cougars are back in action at home will be Feb. 23 and 24 for the C-USA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Yeoman Field House. For the 60 meters and 60-meter hurdles, the athletes with the top eight times will advance to the finals. Athletes in horizontal jumps and throws will have two chances to throw and make the final eight. Once the eight are set, those athletes will get a chance to throw and jump three more times to decide the winner of the event. Two misses will be granted at each height to determine the final 12 athletes in the vertical jumps. Those left will have three misses at each height. In action last week, junior Amanda Villanueva marked a new school record with her throw of 18.29m (60-00.25) at the Houston Invitational. Shayla Bowman set the previous record in the 2004 indoor season. Also on the women' s team, junior Seun Adigun posted a season-best 8.30 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, which was the fastest time in Conference USA and is the 16th fastest in the entire nation. Adigun isn' t the only C-USA best for the team in an event. Senior Carey LaCour also put himself on top in the 60 meters with a time of 6.78. Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
