News Fair gives leg up on job hunting Thirty-seven employers will be present to recruit College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences students by GRANT MEHLHOFF
The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Career Services Center will host its fourth-annual career fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the University Center's Houston Room. The career fair gives CLASS students the opportunity to network with potential employers looking to fill full-time, part-time and internship positions. "It's a great way to bring students and employers together," Career Counselor Program Associate Leah McAlister-Shields said. "It gives students the opportunity to receive valuable assistance in their job search ..." Thirty-seven employers will be present, including educational, corporate, governmental and not-for-profit organizations, such as the Peace Corps and the Alley Theatre. McAlister-Shields recommends students attend the fair with a working knowledge of the companies they would like to apply to. "Have a strategy, dress well, bring extra copies of your résumé and target three or four employers you have thoroughly researched. ..." McAlister-Shields said. "Don't get discouraged if you're asked to apply online." In addition to providing career counseling, the CLASS Career Center helps students prepare their résumés, offers mock interviews and hosts weekly workshops that give students pointers to assist them. Student check-in begins at 11 a.m. For more information, visit www.class.uh.edu/ccsc/. dcnews@mail.uh.edu
