Report card wants more ‘House' UH's prospective medical school: A Texas is in dire need of more physicians. Ranking 41st in physicians per capita is simply unacceptable. The University's possible medical school -- in partnership with Cornell University -- is an important step in remedying the situation. The Texas Medical Center is the largest medical district in the world, serving more than 4 million patients a year. The resources available in such a highly-concentrated location are indispensable, and the addition of another medical school will serve to enhance the capabilities of the world-renowned area. Federal Communications Commission: D The Federal Communications Commission has suggested to Congress ways the Legislature could shield young children from violent television programming, the Associated Press reported. The report suggests that Congress could limit the hours during which the offensive programs air, or that cable providers could institute a government-mandated "family tier" scheduling block. Another suggestion is for cable companies to operate their viewing schedule on a show-by-show basis. These suggestions create a slippery slope. The violence in question allows too much room for ambiguity and negates the role of parents. While not all parents protect their children from exposure to media violence, the report only serves as needless government intrusion into private lives. Legislation will not curb the amount of violence depicted in our society -- only a shift in culture will. This is something the FCC seems woefully unaware of.
