Sports UH makes quick work of Panthers by CHIEF ACHILEFU
The University of Houston tennis team continues to roll at home. The Cougars pummeled Prairie View A&M 6-0 Friday afternoon at the John E. Hoff Courts. The Cougars (7-2) were led by the play of senior Loli Gomez and junior Leila Salek, who each notched 6-0, 6-1 victories. The wins were reminiscent of a dominate performance by a UH team that did not drop a set all afternoon. Freshman Vicki Simpson and Lindsay Willeford were impressive as they handily won their matches 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2 respectively. Senior Sonja Nikolic and freshman Anna Djananova sealed the win for UH by registering 6-1, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-3 wins. The team has now won 23 of their last 24 matches at the John E. Hoff Tennis Courts and has the makings for a great match against the No. 52 LSU Tigers. Coach John Severance said the Cougars' tough schedule has helped prepare them for Monday afternoon's showdown against the Tigers. "We've seen some pretty good competition already this season. There's no reason to be intimidated. We just need to play our best tennis," Severance said. The Cougars will take the courts against LSU at 1:00
p.m. They will then wrap up their homestand with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Admission to all matches at the Hoff Courts is free.
