Britney's actions are ‘Toxic' for her career

Ursula Hawkins
Opinion Columnist

Dear Britney Spears,

Oops, you did it again. Just when we thought you couldn't possibly do any more harm to your already deteriorating public image, you prove us all wrong. This time, it was your new bald hairdo that literally damaged your appearance.

After all of your previous escapades, such as your predictable divorce and your unhealthy, no-panty-wearing, party-going ways, one would think you would be a tad bit tired of being the center of such negative -- and might I add disgusting -- media attention. You really should be fed up with it, and even if you are not, I know I speak for more than just myself when I say I'm sick and tired of seeing you in the tabloids.

At first, the constant media coverage was interesting, but, Britney, shaving your head took it too far. It's not entertaining anymore -- it's just annoying. You could at least make the tabloids work for their stories -- you're practically keeping them all in business. Checking in and out of rehabilitation within 24 hours was not enough. You need some real therapy, and we all know that you can afford the necessary treatment. Give up the kids and get some help.

When I first heard about the custody battle between you and your ex-hubby, Kevin Federline, I thought it was absurd for people to even consider giving him custody of your two baby boys. Considering the fact that he is a deadbeat, wannabe rapper dad, it seemed like a no-brainer to simply give the kids to you. I was on your side, despite dropping the incident in which you drove with one of your sons in your lap. I really believed all those people saying you were not a fit mother just weren't giving you a chance -- after all, the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services immediately looked into the situation and cleared your name.

But I'm afraid after your most recent head-shaving stunt -- which I am sure is just a desperate cry for help -- and the unforgettable panty-less photographs from the paparazzi, your babies' daddy now seems to be a better parent than you. How are you going to teach your kids to put on their own underwear when you don't even wear any? Who's taking care of your kids when you are out shaking it in the club with Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan?

Britney, continue to ruin your image if you like, but at least have some respect for your children.

The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.
